Atoms & Molecules
📋 What it is
Everything is made of atoms; atoms join into molecules (like H₂O = 2 hydrogen + 1 oxygen = water).
🗣️ Coach says
Zoom in on anything and you hit atoms — the tiny building blocks of ALL matter. Atoms link up into molecules, and the RECIPE matters: two hydrogens plus one oxygen make water; change it and you get something else.
🧠 Memory hook
Atoms = building blocks. Molecules = atoms joined by a recipe. Change the recipe, change the stuff.
😂 Giggle
Why did the biologist break up with the physicist?
There was no chemistry between them!
😲 Whoa!
Atoms are so small that a single drop of water contains more atoms than there are stars in the observable universe.
✅ Quick check: Water is H₂O. What do the 2 and the O tell you?
Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.
Two hydrogen atoms bonded to one oxygen atom make one water molecule — the recipe for water.
A chemical formula lists which atoms, and how many, form the molecule.
🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)
Build a “water molecule” from 3 balls of clay/paper: 2 small (hydrogen) stuck to 1 big (oxygen).
