How to play
A field scientist looks closely at a specimen and writes notes — but they keep two kinds of note apart. FieldForge helps you tell them apart.
The two columns
- 👀 Observation — something you can see, count, or measure right now. Anyone looking would write the same thing. “It has six legs.” “The shell is 2 cm long.” “It flew away when the door opened.”
- 💭 Interpretation — a guess about why, how, or what happens next. It's your idea — it might be right, but you can't see it directly. “It flew away because the noise scared it.” “It likes purple flowers best.” “It will come back tomorrow.”
Playing
- Pick a scene: a butterfly, a beetle, a bird, or a fossil.
- Read each note and tap 👀 Observe or 💭 Think.
- Tap Check my notebook. Each correct note locks in with the reason; a wrong one gets a gentle hint — can you SEE it, or are you guessing?

Why it matters (and what we don't claim)
Telling observation from inference is one of the most important habits in all of science (NGSS science-and-engineering practices). Interpretations aren't “wrong” — they're how scientists form ideas — but good science keeps them clearly labelled. FieldForge is not a brain-training program and makes no claim it raises IQ or test scores.
