To multiply fractions, multiply the tops together and the bottoms together — no common denominator needed.

Multiplying is actually the EASY operation: tops × tops, bottoms × bottoms. And “of” means multiply — 1/2 OF 1/3 means 1/2 × 1/3. Notice the answer gets SMALLER, because a part of a part is tinier.

Multiplying two fractions less than 1 always makes the answer smaller — the opposite of multiplying whole numbers. Half of a half is only a quarter!
