The Fork
📋 What it is
A fork attacks two (or more) pieces at once, so your opponent can only save one — you win the other.
🗣️ Coach says
The Twin Knights’ tactic. Look for a square where one piece hits two targets. Knights fork best because their attack is hard to see coming — calculate the leap.
🧠 Memory hook
Fork = one attacker, two targets. They save one, you take the other.
😂 Giggle
Why did the fork get invited everywhere?
Because it could attack two pieces at once!
😲 Whoa!
A knight fork that hits the king AND the queen at the same time is called a “royal fork” — the king must move, and the queen falls.
✅ Quick check: Your knight checks the king AND attacks the queen on the same move. What happens next?
Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.
The king must get out of check, then you capture the queen — you win it.
A fork with check is decisive: the check forces a reply, leaving the second target undefended.
🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)
Place a knight so it attacks two enemy pieces at once. Try to find a square that forks the king and a rook.
