What you practise

HelmDojo teaches regulation-strategy literacy — the way researchers actually describe steadying a feeling. Psychologist James Gross grouped the strategies into families that act at different points of a feeling; HelmDojo carries the whole space for the teen years, including the levers older research names (acting on your values feeling and all, and the slow levers — sleep, movement, the people around you). You freeze a hot moment, predict which move would steady it, watch a deterministic model play the consequence out on the feeling map, and meet the move’s cost, whether it fits the moment, and how strong the evidence for it actually is.

The honest evidence grade

HelmDojo is the one surface in the portfolio that grades the research behind each move — well-supported, mixed, or emerging. Reappraisal and slow breathing are well-supported; distraction and affect-labelling are mixed (they help acutely, less as habits); acting on your values is promising but younger evidence. This is honest-yield, not a claim: some moves have decades of studies, some have a handful, and you deserve to know which is which.

No move is “right”

HelmDojo never scores a move as correct. Every strategy does something and costs something: distraction has a short reach; “holding it in” carries social and memory costs; changing what a thing means helps most when the situation is out of your hands and can backfire when you could just act (Troy et al. 2013). The science is the trade-off, not a winning answer. In every scene, reaching a person you trust is a real move, never a “loss”.

A map, not a mood tracker

The scenarios and their feelings are fixed story data, and the model’s result is the same every time — it is never fit to you. Nothing you feel is entered or saved; there is no diary, no history, and no “how do you feel today?” check-in. There is no microphone and no camera. Scenarios are everyday and never involve self-harm, abuse, or danger.

Our privacy promise

HelmDojo Play is free, works offline, and collects nothing. No accounts, no ads, no tracking, no microphone, no camera; nothing you feel ever leaves this device. Only which scenes you have explored is saved, only in this browser. It builds literacy about the science of steadying feelings; it is not therapy and does not measure or diagnose anyone. The crisis resources below are always one tap away.
