Playing HopTots together 🦗
HopTots is a move-and-make game for ages 3–5. Your child taps movement tiles to build a course — hop, spin, freeze, crawl — then Bounce the grasshopper calls it out and you both do it across the room. It’s a lovely one to play standing up, together.
1 · Tap tiles to build a course
Tap Hop 🦘, Spin 🌀, Freeze 🧊 or Crawl 🐛 to add them, in order, to the course. Tap a tile already in the course to take it off. Say each one out loud together as you add it — that’s the sequencing.
2 · Send Bounce and do it together
Tap Send Bounce 🦗 and he calls the course out one move at a time. Do each move with him across the room. There’s no camera and nothing to score — moving together IS the game.
3 · Make a course FOR Bounce
Here’s the big idea: Bounce is a little grasshopper. A good course is one he can do — not too long to remember, and not all hopping in a row (he gets puffed out!). If you build one that’s too much, Bounce will say so, kindly. Building something for someone else to enjoy — that’s designing for a player, not just yourself.
Meet the crew
- Bounce the grasshopper — calls out your course and does it with you.
- Hop 🦘 & Spin 🌀 — the big moves (they tire a little grasshopper out).
- Freeze 🧊 & Crawl 🐛 — the resting moves (a chance to catch your breath).
What it teaches
- Sequencing: putting moves in an order and following them.
- Design for a player, not yourself: make a course a little friend can really do.
- Move-together play: a course is more fun when someone does it with you.
