A sunny low writing table where two young children, a boy in a neat striped t-shirt and a girl in a clean yellow sweater, sit side by side with plenty of room between them, each tracing a big looping dotted path on a blank sheet of paper with a chunky crayon, a cup of crayons and a stack of blank paper beside them, soft morning window light

For grown-ups

Fluent handwriting rests on two habits taught explicitly: where a stroke starts and which way it goes (the letters c, o, a and d all start near the top and curve the same way). InkPals checks only those, plus staying near the guide — never neatness, never a grade. Use a finger, a stylus or a mouse; if dragging is hard, Tap the dots works with one tap at a time or the keyboard. Strokes are checked on this device and never saved as a picture.

The ink friends

  • Startdot — waits at the start — every stroke begins on the green dot.
  • Arrowby — points the way: down, round to the left, across.
  • Curlee — curves c, o, a and d the same way round.
  • Inkwell — (mentor) — asks “where do we start?” before every letter.
