For grown-ups

PacePals is a town at your child's height, measured in footsteps. Your child picks a neighbour and a place: home to school, to the market, to the bakery. The app finds the shortest way along the street and counts every step aloud. A bench waits every ten steps, so the walk is counted in tens.

Then your child changes the town. Move the bakery, add a footbridge over the river, or paint a crossing, and walk the same trip again. Did it get shorter? There is no score. A second thing shows only on the walker's face: shade from trees, a quiet street and things to look at make a walk pleasant.

Off the screen is the best part. Walk a real route with your child, count the steps together, and draw a step map at home: a line, a mark every ten steps, a picture at each stop. The print button gives you a blank step map to fill in.

This street is part of your family's Hometown, the same town PlopTots and CityForge open. It is kept on this device. To pass it on, copy the town code; nothing is sent anywhere.

What it never does

  • No accounts, no ads, no tracking — anything kept stays on this device.
  • No streaks, timers to beat, points to chase or leaderboards.
  • No chat, and nothing anyone types is sent anywhere.

We describe what PacePals is designed to practise. We do not claim it raises test scores.
