Rafa’s Monday meeting

Rafa — a seventeen-year-old summer intern at a four-person game studio

The idea in play: reading a metric before acting on it: split the average before you trust it, and ask what a target stops measuring.

The studio’s small card game has two heroes. Every Monday the team looks at one dashboard and decides that week’s patch. Rafa has been asked to bring the numbers.

The overall table shows the hero Ember winning 50% of games and the hero Moss 46%. Players on the forum say Ember is too strong.

The producer’s target for the quarter is weekly active players. A designer has a ready-made idea: a streak reward that pays out for logging in every day.

Rafa also has the raw match log, which records each player’s skill bracket. Nobody has opened it yet.

What does Rafa do before the meeting?

The producer asks Rafa whether to ship the streak reward.
