Typography & Branding

📋 What it is

Typography is the art of arranging text so it’s readable and sets a mood; branding uses consistent design so a company is recognisable.

🗣️ Coach says

Letters have personality. Typography chooses fonts and spacing so text is easy to read AND sets a feeling — playful, serious, elegant. Branding keeps a company’s look consistent so you recognise it instantly. Design people can trust.

🧠 Memory hook

Type = readable + a mood. Branding = consistent + recognisable.

😂 Giggle

What did the grid say to the freehand artist?
"You really need to get in line!"

😲 Whoa!

You can often recognise a famous brand from just its font and colours, with the name covered up entirely.

🖼️ Curate a “Letters With Personality” wall — choose 4 type/branding ideas.

You're the curator. Choose 4 pieces, write a placard for each, then open your hall. There’s no single right set — curate with a reason.

Little “feet” on letters — feel traditional, trusty.

No feet — feel clean, modern, simple.

Two fonts that work together (a heading + a body).

The gaps between letters — too tight is hard to read.

Size/weight show what to read first.

A few colours used consistently everywhere.

One recognisable mark that stands for the whole brand.

Before you open your hall, check your own work — no grade, just a curator’s eye:

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

Look at two logos and describe how their fonts feel different (fun vs serious?).
