Pixel Craft

📋 What it is

Pixel artists work with a tiny grid and a few colours, so every choice shows: the ramp, the light, the edge, the pattern, the frame.

🗣️ Coach says

In pixel art you can see every decision. A short ramp of colours turns a flat shape round, one light keeps a scene honest, an edge (or no edge) makes a sprite pop, two colours in a checker fake a third, a tile that matches its own edges makes a floor, and two frames make a wave.

🧠 Memory hook

Ramp, light, edge, dither, tile, frame. Every pixel is a choice.

😂 Giggle

Why was the triadic color scheme so popular at parties?
It always brought three times the fun!

😲 Whoa!

Old game artists animated whole waterfalls without redrawing a pixel, just by trading the colours around.

🖼️ Curate a “Pixel Craft” hall: choose 4 tricks a pixel artist uses on purpose.

You're the curator. Choose 4 pieces, write a placard for each, then open your hall. There’s no single right set — curate with a reason.

0 / 4 chosen

Four colours from dark to light make a shape look round.

Cooler darks and warmer lights keep a ramp from going muddy.

Every shape in the scene is lit from the same side.

An edge that is darker in shadow and lighter (or gone) where the light hits.

A middle colour where an edge steps, so a curve reads smooth.

A checker of two colours your eye blends into a third.

A square that matches its own edges, so it repeats into a floor.

The faint last frame, to see how far to move the next one.

Fill the sprite with one colour: can you still tell what it is?

Before you open your hall, check your own work — no grade, just a curator’s eye:

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

Open the Pixel Atelier and try one trick from your hall on an 8 × 8 picture.
