For grown-ups

RecipeForge gives a 6–8-year-old a surprising, real idea to feel: the ORDER of the beads decides the SHAPE it folds into — but only a few beads actually matter. A string of coloured beads folds into a ring, a coil, a hook, or a strand, decided by whether the two ENDS match and whether the middle HINGE is a kink. Change a filler bead and — surprise — nothing happens. Change a key bead and the whole shape changes.

What it's quietly building

  • Sequence → structure. A first, concrete version of a deep idea: the order of the parts decides the shape of the whole.
  • Some parts matter more. A few key beads carry the fold; the rest are filler. Predicting which is which is the game.
  • Predict, then check. Before every change the child guesses "will the shape change?" — the strongest way to learn a counter-intuitive rule.

Make and share

Every recipe has a short code (letters like rbgd). Your child can save their creation's code and read one back in — a gentle first taste of "a design is a file you can share." Try swapping codes with them.
