SwapTots — for grown-ups

SwapTots is the very first swap game, for ages 3–5. A child gives a friend the shell they want and gets a shell they love — one friend at a time. It is the friendly heart of trading: give-and-get, ask kindly, and take turns. Here is the whole game in five gentle ideas:

  • A swap is give AND get — You give a friend one shell, and you get one shell back. That is a swap — one for one. Pebble does it all day!
  • Give the shell they want — Each friend is hoping for one special shell. Give them THAT shell, and they will happily swap with you.
  • “No thank you” is okay — If you give the wrong shell, your friend says “no thank you” and tells you what they DO want. So you can listen, and try the right one. Nothing is lost.
  • Take turns — Swap with one friend, then another. There is no rush and no clock — just one happy swap at a time.
  • Collect the shells you love — When you have all the shells on your wishlist, everyone is happy! You cannot lose — you can only make friends smile.

Why this, at 3–5

Between about three and five, children begin to enjoy a fair one-for-one exchange — giving a thing to get a thing (developmental researchers call this the early give-and-get window). Many children's games skip the deal entirely and just hand out pieces. SwapTots gives it back at its gentlest: a real swap, but with no counting, no reading required, no timer, and no way to lose. A friend saying “no thank you” — and naming what they do want — turns a wrong pick into a little listening moment instead of a failure.

How it works: every swap is worked out by a small, exact engine (checked by automated tests) right on your device — nothing about your game leaves it (no account, no tracking, no clock). The friends are gently scripted; there is no chatbot. A “🔊 Read to me” button reads everything aloud for pre-readers. Honest note: SwapTots offers a first, friendly taste of give-and-get and listening — it makes no test or skill claim.
