Round 7 of 16

All Fives and Muggins

📋 What it is

In All Fives (Muggins) you score when the open-end total is a MULTIPLE of 5 — you earn that total in points.

🗣️ Coach says

This is where multiplication tables pay off. After each play, add the open ends; if the total is a multiple of 5 (5, 10, 15, 20…), you score exactly that many points. In "Muggins", if you MISS your own score and shout "Muggins!", an opponent can steal it — so spotting multiples of 5 instantly matters.

🧠 Memory hook

Open-end total is a multiple of 5 → score that total. Miss it and someone yells "Muggins" to steal it.

😂 Giggle

Why did the double get to sit sideways?
It's the one tile that likes to branch out!

😲 Whoa!

The name "Muggins" is a friendly insult for the player who forgot to claim their own points — a built-in reward for fast mental math.

✅ Quick check: The open ends add to 15. Do you score, and how much?

Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.

🪄 Trick question: The open ends add to 12. You score 12 points, right?

Careful — think it through, then reveal.

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

Deal a layout, add the open ends, and decide: multiple of 5 or not? If yes, say the score before you check.

🤸 Brain break: Fives chant: count 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 on your fingers as fast as you can, twice.
