All Threes & Fives-and-Threes
📋 What it is
Fives-and-Threes scores the open-end total for EACH multiple of 3 and EACH multiple of 5 it contains.
🗣️ Coach says
This is the richest scoring math in dominoes. Take the open-end total and check it against BOTH 3 and 5. A total of 15 is divisible by 3 (=5 threes) and by 5 (=3 fives), so you score 5 + 3 = 8 points. A total of 9 is only three 3s → 3 points. Division and factors decide your score.
🧠 Memory hook
Divide the total by 3 AND by 5. Count how many of each divide evenly, then ADD those counts for your score.
😂 Giggle
What did the blank tile say?
"I bring zero to the table — literally!"
😲 Whoa!
Fives-and-Threes is the traditional pub game of Britain — league players do this factor math in their heads in seconds.
✅ Quick check: The open-end total is 15. How many points in Fives-and-Threes?
Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.
8 points — 15 ÷ 3 = 5 (five 3s) and 15 ÷ 5 = 3 (three 5s), so 5 + 3 = 8.
You score the count of 3s plus the count of 5s that divide the total exactly.
🪄 Trick question: A total of 15 scores 15 points (a multiple of both), right?
Careful — think it through, then reveal.
No — you score the COUNTS: five 3s + three 5s = 8, not 15.
Fives-and-Threes counts how many 3s and 5s fit, then adds those counts.
