The Bramble Leaf
The hammer rang once. A spark jumped off the anvil and did not go out. It waited. They followed.
Down the path. Into the Hollow.
The old fence had a new post.
On it, a tiny hammer.
Three big leaves lay on the grass.
Who is under a … leaf?
A soft moth floated down. Flitter!
She hid the Moonstone. Where? Shh.
Shh. Under a leaf.
In front of the last leaf sat a bramble.
Round and green and bumpy. Briar.
"I never move," said Briar.
"Bump me, and home you go."
Shh. Under a leaf.
Bump me, and home you go.
"I'll push right through!" said Tí.
"Bump, bump," said Briar.
Tí stopped. His toes were very … close.
Who can clear the bramble?
Tí lifted the first leaf.
Black and white! A badger!
"Brambles are my job," said Burdock.
Dig, dig, dig. Dig, dig, dig.
The bramble rolled aside, all in one … piece.
"Dig, dig, the bramble's gone!"
Shh. Under a leaf.
Bump me, and home you go.
Dig, dig, the bramble's gone!
The path was open.
One leaf left.
Who is under the last … leaf?
Tí walked up. He lifted it himself.
The Moonstone! Shining … bright.
The spark dimmed to a warm dot and settled back on the anvil. The Green was just the Green again.
Back on the Green
Tí's sock was stuck behind the sofa.
Tí did not pull. He fetched his big sister.
"Brambles are your job," he said.

The Honest Page
Which parts of this story are true, stretched or made up?
True
Stretched
- Burdock digs the bramble out of the way. What we simplified: In the game the bramble piece is simply taken off the board; real badgers dig earth, not bushes.
Made up
- The Hollow, its leaves and the Moonstone are made up. Flitter comes from HollowTots; Briar and Burdock from HollowPals.
