FlipbookForge

Guessit the tin bird makes flipbooks by guessing each next picture from the last two. For a few frames it looks right. Then the door creeps, the ball flies through the wall, the cat behind the box vanishes. Guess the next frame yourself, flip Guessit's book and catch the drift. Predicting is not simulating.

Distributed-narrative cast

Meet the cast

FlipbookForge's animators draw small worlds that follow rules. Guessit only ever copies the last two pictures forward, so the child has to catch where its world stops making sense.

Pencilla portrait

Pencilla

(Hero and animator, an otter with a pencil behind one ear) - draws each frame by the rules of the world: the ball bounces, the door stays, the cat is still there behind the box

Guessit portrait

Guessit

A tin bird that predicts - looks only at the last two pictures and keeps going the same way, so it is right for a while and then drifts

Stayput portrait

Stayput

A tortoise who does not move unless something moves it - a door or a wall stays where it is, frame after frame

Smudger portrait

Smudger

A raccoon who keeps the hidden things in mind - a cat behind a box is still there, even when you cannot see it
